Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Community School Program Specialist is charged with continuously evolving and implementing Community School strategies.
With support from the district and school administration, the Community School Program Specialist leads, coordinates, oversees and manages programs and activities on the school campus that support students and their families’ emotional, social, and health needs. The Community School Program Specialist also participates in city and county efforts to share and promote the value and benefits of Community Schools. Initiatives and programs to be orchestrated include, but are not limited to, family support, after school programs, health insurance enrollment, health education and access to health services, mental health services, family engagement, prevention and early intervention, adult education and academic supports.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Directly responsible to designated administrators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Working with students, school personnel, partners, and families to address barriers to learning and coordinating appropriate services and referrals.

Developing, coordinating, and monitoring site-based programs.

Developing, coordinating, and monitoring student and family opportunities (extended day learning, student clubs, school wide events, tutoring services, and PTC events).

Developing and/or conducting training for students, parents, and teachers.

Working with site administrators, teachers, and partners to coordinate activities and assure effective program delivery (APTT, lunch time activities, and other school wide activities).

Developing, maintaining, and publicizing a schedule of programs and activities offered at the school.

Monitoring and support student/family participation in all programs to meet target goals.

Facilitating ongoing communication between service providers, teachers, parents and students for increased service access.

Support the development of youth leadership, parent engagement and family support throughout all Community School and Kids’ Zone efforts.

Monitoring student attendance through weekly contacts, meetings, and written notices.

Coordinating the collection and input of evaluation data used to measure ongoing program effectiveness of services and program outcome measures.

Organizing and attending various school meetings and other outreach and grant related events (program culminations, press events, open houses, community events, etc.).

Data entry of student and parent information on service tracking database.

Required to travel to attend meetings, trainings, home visits, pick up/drop off family resource materials and supplies, etc.

Supervise and manage community meetings and trainings.

Opens and closes site for community meetings and trainings.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working in youth development, youth academic enrichment and family support programs strongly preferred.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Experience working with community partnerships and collaboratives.

Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines and work under time pressure.

Experience working with individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Strong computer skills and a complete knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Ability to establish and maintain positive work relationships in the school and community.

Ability to work with varied populations, such as administrators, teachers, parents, and students

Completion of other required trainings (i.e., worker’s compensation, training against harassment, etc.) when assigned

Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.

SALARY & WORKYEAR:

The work year for the Community School Program Specialist is 190 days with some evenings and weekends required

Placement on the 190 day management salary schedule at salary range 19 steps 1-5.
